Welcome to Snowline Kennel Archives

Petrovich's Birthday!

Speaking of Petrovich, we celebrated his 9th birthday on March 30 by going to Pets Mart for a new collar and a BIG bag of treats.

Happy Birthday to Petrovich and his littermates!

Antelope Valley 4-H Livestock Symposium and Ethics Training

Snowline Kennel, along with Tri Valley Working Dog Club were  invited to speak at Antelope Valley 4-H Livestock Symposium and Ethics training held on Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Petrovich, Onyx and Olive did an awesome job, working the crowd and showing off obedience/rally skills for the groups.  There were four sessions and we were scheduled to speak at three of them. Due to the HUGE response from the 4-H Little Rockers, we actually conducted four sessions.  Petrovich and Onyx were the demo dogs for Therapy and Service work, with Olive showing off her skills with her daddy in obedience and rally.

All in attendance loved the dogs and they hope to see us at the next one!  Check out the videos of the day!

Uriah: (Onyx’s baby girl)

Uriah is our newest show princess. She just turned one year old on 12-30 and has already earned her first two major wins towards her championship.  (to earn an AKC Championship, you have to have two major wins and 15 points). Major wins are hard to come by and she is well on her way to becoming another Snowline champion.  We are really proud of her and look forward to showing her in the near future.

The BRTCA, (Black Russian Terrier Club of America) will be having again this year, a" Meet the Breed" booth at Eukanuba. The dates are: December 4th & December 5th.  Friends/owners/friendly BRT's  are encouraged to come and support the breed and the National Club. If you are interested in helping run the booth please go to the website for more info or contact Eric Ayaso at eric.ayaso@cox.net

The BRT's will show on Sunday December 5th, (time to be announced) but the booth is there both days.  Eveyone who owns a BRT are always willing and excited to talk and share the breed with others who are intereste .So.. here is your chance to participate, and you would be helping the club as well.  We will be there on Sunday in the ring and helping with the booth after showtime.

Hope to see you there!

October 2010 Updates

Anya/Petrovich breeding

No puppies!
Although Anya thinks she is pregnaunt, the sonogram showed no puppies for Halloween. We are so disappointed with the news, but we do want healthy babies, so we will have to be patient. We will repeat the breeding at her next season.

Onyx

Onyx is doing great! He gave us a BIG scare when we discovered a very very infected puncture on his neck. He had to have surgery, which left a 15 inch scar to remove all the infected tissue. He was in ICU for 5 days and we are pleased to announce that he is back to being himself again, chasing the girls and strutting around like he runs the place. He likes to rub his head and neck on everything, so we will never know what poked him and caused such a horrible infection. We really appreciate all the prayers that went out for him and the love and kindness people showed us during this trying time.

AKC Cainine Experience
The TriValley Working Dog Club held it's annual AKC Canine Experience on 10-10-10 at (when else?) 10 AM. This event is geared towards introducing the public to the world of dog showing from filing out the entry form to grooming, to showing in the ring and even going to groups. It was well attended this year and opened the eyes to many who are interested in showing their dog. There was obedience, conformation, CGC testing, and much much more.

Eukanuba Invitational December 4th & 5th
The Eukanuba dog show will be coming up on the 4th & 5th of December. Onyx has been invited as his second year in a row, so we plan to be there.

Also, the BRTCA will be represented at the Meet the Breed Booth both days during the show. If anyone is interested in working a couple of hours in the booth, you can sign-up on line at http://doodle.com/ukn6g8c5vytsmrkr for a shift. Your help will be greatly appreciated by the BRTCA family!

September 2010 Updates

Petrovich
Petrovich celebrated his 8th birthday in March with a BIG Birthday Party at the library. 60 people attended with cake, balloons and gifts.
During the weekend of 9-11-10 after reading at the Library, we went to Apple Valley and participated in the Paws and Claws event.  The reading dog group, PJ’s Pals was there to allow children to read to them. The kids were very excited to be able to read to the dogs, but when Petrovich arrived, they only wanted to read to the BIG BLACK DOG. He is such a love and loved every minute of it.  One of the gals from our reading group put together a coloring book with all the read dogs in it that day, passed them out along with some crayons to each child that read. They were very excited to see a cartoon of Petrovich to color!

If you are thinking about volunteering somewhere, there is nothing that is more rewarding than giving back to the community and the outreach that it creates. Try it sometime as the rewards are more than you can ever imagine.

Petrovich just did a breeding so we are on pregnancy watch!

Onyx

Onyx has been doing really well. He has grown into not only a beautiful dog, but one that has a beautiful spirit. He loves to show and knows that it is his job to run around the ring and show off.  He has a great temperament and loves to be cuddled. His favorite time is when mommy takes a blanket out under the trees to lay on he is the first one there and seems to take up the most space!  He is definitely a “mommy’s boy”, but on duty when needed.  He loves to carry around large toys and has a great appetite.

Raven
Raven has had her hands full, raising two girls now that Uriah has arrived.  She loves the girls and lays down with them in the grass when they are running around so they can jump on her. She always has a watchful eye on both girls and if they get to “crazy” gets them under control.  Raven is in training for Rally as she only needs one more leg to get her first title.  Raven also passed her CGC test while attending a local match. She was so happy with herself that she started to roll in the hot grass afterwards. She is full of fun!

Olive
Olive has now turned two years old and we are pleased to announce that she has passed her OFFA Testing!  We were able to test her hips-elbows-heart at a local show with BVS mobile vet. He is not certified to do the eyes, so we are looking into that with another vet soon.   She has a great temperament and a loving personality. She is a true cuddlier and likes to “tuck up tight” next to you and not move!
Olive has been in training for Obedience and Rally and we hope to have her out showing in these classes soon.  Another announcement on Olive is that she too, like her sister Raven has passed her CGC testing at a local match (different location from Raven).  She loves to work and does a great job at it.

Uriah
Uriah is the newest addition to the family and just getting started with her training and showing at times. Our handling instructor states that “she is starting to get it” so we look forward to future shows with her.

We didn’t make it to the BRTCA National this year due to an injury. We heard it was a great time by all and we look forward to next’s year in St. Louis, MO.

Meet Uriah

AKA Midnight Solo Ultimate Desire for Snowline

UriahShe is the offspring of our Onyx, CH Setextra Chevalier Noir (BISS winner 2009) and Rusah, Furry Rusah Siberian Star.
Rusah along with her owner came to California and stayed with us for 5 days for the breeding then flew back home.  Uriah and her littermates were born on 12-30-09.  She and I few home at the age of 8 weeks to meet the rest of her family.

Sister Olive is one of her best of friends, although Raven is very loving towards her also. The three girls play very well together, letting Uriah think she is in charge.

Uriah is growing up and is becoming our newest “show princess”.  She is starting to understand that she needs to stand still so a judge can go over her and that the judge likes to look at her pretty white teeth.  I think she will do well in the ring and seems to enjoy it.

Look for more on Uriah as she grows!

Ralph the ruscue dog

Ralph the rescue dogWhile at the show in Pomona over the Memorial weekend, I was approached by Judy from Bouvier Rescue who had picked up a male dog from a shelter that resembled a BRT.  I went out to visit him, and

He was at the shelter with a broken leg, which they had taken care of and put him in a cast.  Judy  takes him to the vet every three days for the cast check, and it should be coming off after 6 weeks.

Ralph will be placed in a loving home with a gal from Las Vegas.  Once he is healthily, he will begin training to become a Certified Therapy Dog.

On behalf of the BRTCA, I want to thank the Humane Society for taking care of him, to Judy and Bouvier Rescue for taking him in and nursing him back to health and finding a loving, working home for him.

We have such a great network of people, who are working together to take care of all misplaced and injured.  Thanks to all involved!

R.E.A.D. Program/Therapy program

As you know, Petrovich loves being involved with the Therapy Dog programs.  He loves all people, reads them well and enjoys his visits.  Petrovich’s certification was up for renewal so we reviewed the different organizations and made the decision to re-certify him, so
that he can continue his community service work through TD, Inc. (Therapy Dogs, Inc).  www.therapydogs.com .  TD, Inc is located in Cheyenne, WY.

Through TD, Inc., Petrovich had to visit three different facilities while being observed by his evaluator.  We were able to visit with local people who currently live in retirement homes.  He enjoyed every moment of the visiting/re-testing process.  Some knew him from his visits in December, when we participated in the Christmas Caroling with other certified dogs and handlers.

He will be sporting a Therapy Dog vest to wear during visits.  The
vest is Red of course to show off his beautiful black coat.
